In the soft light of early morning, dragonflies dart about catching insects above a meadow of golden alkali bush. The twisting trunks and canopy of old cottonwood trees filter the sunlight creating a magical, serene atmosphere, inviting one to enjoy the tranquility of nature.
This oil painting was inspired by a summer sunrise walk in the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, which is a wetlands preserve in the California desert.
Thank you for finding my work! The subjects I choose to paint are frequently inspired by nature and imagining my place in the universe. I have a fondness for the ease of acrylics, but also work with colored pencils, watercolor, oils, and just about any medium I can get my hands on (I think I might be a hoarder of art supplies). Born in Southern California, raised in the mountains of Northern Utah, I have lived much of my adult life in the desert solitude near Palm Springs (with a brief 2-year fling in the tropics of Hawaii). I have enjoyed the beauty, tranquility, and lush environment of all these areas. As an avid hiker and camper, I find the deserts, mountains and ocean beaches to be some of my favorite places.
