Description
On the Oregon coast near Yachats, there is a strange grouping of volcanic rocks in the midst of a sea of golden grass. A game path cuts through leading down to the ocean and tide pools. A Great White Egret sits in stark contrast to the black rocks.
I wonder at the biological connection between the rocks and grass. Does the erosion from the rocks give off mineral nutrients perfectly suited for the grass? Or does it repel the other coastal plants and only the grass is hardy enough to grow there? Either way, it is visually compelling.
