Description
Along the fault line in the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, sits an old car half buried in the sand. How it became a fixture on the Mesquite trail is a mystery, a story from a past era. There are no roads here, just trails among the red willows, reeds, and cottonwoods. Once, maybe in the 1940s, this car carried a family on vacations to the beach or groceries up from the lower valley. But its bullet-ridden shell ended up here, an unsolved murder in the desolate backcountry of Morongo Valley.
A desert woodrat takes cover from a predator, hoping to avoid the same fate.
