I volunteer at a local wildlife preserve. Since I live nearby, one of my tasks is to open the gates every morning. It’s more of a gift than a task, because I get to see the preserve in the early light. The vision is transient and fleeting and shifts with the seasonal weather. On this fall morning, a mist had settled into the low areas illuminated by the first rays of dawn. This might not seem amazing to some, but this special preserve is surrounded by desert. The trees alone are due to a geologic wonder and a fog is nearly unheard-of. So, this mystical scene felt like a visual miracle.
Thank you for finding my work! The subjects I choose to paint are frequently inspired by nature and imagining my place in the universe. I have a fondness for the ease of acrylics, but also work with colored pencils, watercolor, oils, and just about any medium I can get my hands on (I think I might be a hoarder of art supplies). Born in Southern California, raised in the mountains of Northern Utah, I have lived much of my adult life in the desert solitude near Palm Springs (with a brief 2-year fling in the tropics of Hawaii). I have enjoyed the beauty, tranquility, and lush environment of all these areas. As an avid hiker and camper, I find the deserts, mountains and ocean beaches to be some of my favorite places.
